The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Nursing students organized a Healthy Eating Choices Workshop for Kids at the Rio Grande City Public Library on Thursday, July 11. The event focused on educating children about proper eating habits, oral care, and hand-washing techniques.
The nursing students engaged the young participants with interactive sessions and distributed free books to encourage continued learning at home. The primary aim of the workshop was to promote healthy eating and care habits to ensure a healthier lifestyle for the children.
Norma Fultz, director of the Rio Grande City Public Library, praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of such educational programs. "This workshop is a wonderful example of how we can empower our children with the knowledge and habits they need for a healthy future," Fultz said. "The UTRGV nursing students did an excellent job of making learning fun and accessible for our young attendees."
Through hands-on demonstrations and practical advice, the students taught the children about the benefits of a balanced diet, the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, and the proper way to wash hands to prevent illness. The workshop aimed to instill these essential habits early in life, setting the foundation for long-term health and well-being.
Parents also expressed their appreciation for the event, noting that the engaging activities helped their children grasp important health concepts. The collaboration between UTRGV and the Rio Grande City Public Library highlights the community's commitment to fostering a healthy and informed younger generation.
