PHARR, Texas — The City of Pharr will celebrate its 117th anniversary with a community birthday event in downtown Pharr on Thursday, Jan. 22.
The celebration is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at 200 S. Cage Blvd. and will feature birthday cake, music, games and family-friendly activities. Admission is free and open to the public.
Pharr was incorporated in 1909 and grew from an early agricultural community into one of the Rio Grande Valley’s largest cities. According to city records, the city was originally known as Pharr City and later became a regional hub tied to farming, rail transportation and cross-border commerce.
City officials say the annual birthday celebration is an opportunity for residents to reflect on Pharr’s history while celebrating the community’s continued growth.
Organizers encourage families and residents to attend the downtown event and take part in the festivities honoring the city’s past and present.
More information about the event is available through the City of Pharr’s website and official social media channels.
