Starr Music Academy (SMA) is set to host it's annual Spring recital on Sunday afternoon, May 19, at the historic Rio Grande City Downtown Kiosk starting at 4:00 p.m.
This year's Spring recital theme is Fiesta Mexicana featuring sounds of traditional Mexican folk music. "This will be our Annual Spring Student Showcase featuring over forty performers age four to fifteen on piano, violin, cello, voice, guitar, and ukulele playing traditional Mexican folk music," said SMA owner Corrine Garcia.
Last month, Starr Music Academy announced it had moved to a new, expanded location. "Our new location features an expanded retail space, two teaching areas including a larger piano lab, a teacher work area, a break room, and plenty of storage for our instrument inventory and ever expanding library of educational music, books, games, and activities," stated Garcia. "Our expanded facilities will enable us to eventually grow our teaching staff to accommodate even more students. We are so grateful to the staff at La Borde House for making us feel so at home in our original historic location. We plan to continue making music in Starr County for years to come."
The Academy's new address is 505A E. Main Street in the Hernandez Building complex. "It is conveniently accessible from Main Street for easy student drop off, and features dedicated parking at the rear entrance from the alley, as well as overflow parking on Lopez Street. A beautiful garden and bright airy spaces make our new home the perfect place to learn music with friends," added Garcia.
