This Year's RGC Freedom Fest Set to be the Biggest One Yet

The City of Rio Grande City is set to host its official 4th of July themed event this weekend at the Basilio Villarreal Municipal Park.

According to event organizers, this year's Freedom Fest will span over 3 days starting Friday, June 29, with a Team Roping Competition at the Sheriff's Posse Arena. The bulk of the festivities are set to take place on Saturday, June 30, including a car show, a cook-off competition, a softball tournament, live concerts, and a massive fireworks display. The softball championship tournament will take place all-day Sunday, July 1.

For the past 3 years, the event has been almost exclusively organized by the Rio Grande City Tourism Dept. This year, however, other parties including the local two-time Grammy winning band Solido stepped up to help organize the event, helping it grow from a one day event to a three-day festival.

Set to perform on stage on Saturday is Eliseo Robles y Los Barbaros del Norte, Elida Reyna, Las Fenix, and Grupo Solido.

Admission for all 3 days of Freedom Fest is absolutely Free, with the option of purchasing VIP PIT Passes available. The Rio Grande City Basilio Villarreal Park is located at 1473 Stephen Saenz St. For more information about this event, residents are encouraged to call 956-487-0672.
