Traffic Pattern Change Coming to N. East Street in Downtown Rio Grande City

The City of Rio Grande City has announced a traffic pattern change for a section of North East Street in the downtown area, set to take effect later this month.

Starting March 26, 2025, the portion of N. East St. between Main Street and 2nd Street will revert from a one-way to a two-way street. The change comes following City Council approval on Jan. 31, 2025, and is intended to improve traffic flow in the area.

Implementation work is scheduled to begin on March 12 and will be completed in time for the transition. During this period, motorists may experience temporary lane closures and detours.

As part of the change, a new stop sign will be installed at the intersection of N. East St. and Main St. to accommodate the updated traffic pattern. Officials urge drivers to be cautious, follow all new signage and road markings, and remain alert for vehicles traveling in the newly established direction.

For more information or concerns, residents can contact Hector Barrera, Public Works Director, at (956) 488-8382 ext. 6101.
