Rio Grande City Police Accepting Applications for Upcoming Police Academy

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas - The Rio Grande City Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming police academy class and is encouraging individuals interested in law enforcement careers to apply.
According to the department, entrance exam dates are scheduled throughout February 2026, with orientation set for April 3. Officials said space in the academy is limited and prospective cadets are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible.
The department directed applicants to review eligibility requirements and register through the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Regional Police Academy.
Exam Dates and Orientation
Entrance testing is scheduled for the following dates:
Feb. 24, 2026
Feb. 26, 2026
Orientation for accepted applicants is scheduled for April 3, 2026.
Officials said applicants will receive an email prior to their testing date with the location and a list of required documents. All required paperwork must be completed and presented on the day of testing, and incomplete documentation may result in rescheduling if space is available.
Application Requirements
According to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Regional Police Academy, applicants must complete the Basic Peace Officer Course application and submit required identification and academic documents as part of the enrollment process. Candidates must also meet eligibility standards established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
The academy provides professional training designed to prepare cadets for certification as licensed peace officers in Texas and serves law enforcement agencies throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
