RGC P&Z Staff Continue Efforts to Ensure Public Health, Controlling Mosquito Population

The City of RGC Planning and Zoning Department recently attended the 2023 South Texas Monthly Mosquito Round Up Participant Appreciation Day hosted by Texas Department of State Health Services Dr. Ronald Tyler, DVM, MS DSHS Region II Zoonosis Control Veterinarian.

During this event, City staff learned about the importance of mosquito surveillance and the important job it plays in safeguarding public health.

Mosquito surveillance is a crucial component of public health efforts aimed at preventing and controlling the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

Surveillance helps identify the presence of disease-carrying mosquito species in specific areas. This early detection allows for targeted intervention and control measures before disease transmission occurs.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is a state agency that focuses on protecting and improving the health and well-being of Texans. DSHS plays a key role in various public health activities, including disease prevention, health promotion, emergency preparedness, and regulatory functions. It oversees a wide range of programs related to public health, environmental health, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and more.
