The Rio Grande City Parks & Recreation Department has opened registration for its Flag and Tackle Football program. The program is available for children in 2nd through 6th grade, with separate divisions based on grade level.
To register, participants must provide a birth certificate and a physical examination report. The registration fees are $40 for 2nd and 3rd graders and $60 for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. These fees cover the cost of essential equipment, including shoulder pads and helmets.
The Parks & Recreation Department is also seeking volunteer coaches to help guide and mentor the young athletes. Individuals interested in volunteering or who have questions about the program are encouraged to contact the Parks & Recreation office at (956) 488-8728.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn teamwork, discipline, and the fundamentals of football in a fun and supportive environment,” said Rio Grande City Parks and Rec. director Frank Eguia. “We are excited to get started and appreciate the community’s involvement, especially our volunteer coaches who make this program possible.”
Registration forms and additional information can be obtained from the Rio Grande City Parks & Recreation office. The program aims to foster a love for the sport while ensuring the safety and development of all participants.
