The McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Run will return Jan. 17, 2026, offering multiple race options and drawing runners from across the Rio Grande Valley, the United States and Mexico.

The event will feature a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and a six-person relay, with all races taking place on a single day. Organizers expect more than 12,000 runners and spectators to attend, making it one of the region’s largest running events.

The full marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying race. Organizers say the course and community support have made the event popular among elite athletes seeking qualifying times as well as recreational runners aiming for personal bests.

The McAllen Marathon is part of the McAllen Marathon Running Series, which welcomes runners of all experience levels. Participants who complete select races throughout the year, including the MXLAN Neon Nights 5K, Independence 4K, Fright Nite 5K, Turkey Trot 5K/10K and a race during marathon weekend, earn the McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Running Series medal.

The race is named in honor of former McAllen City Commissioner Scott Crane, who served three terms after being elected in 2005. City leaders renamed the event to recognize Crane’s advocacy for health, fitness and quality of life initiatives.

“He had a vision for a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages,” said Sasha Crane, the commissioner’s widow, during the renaming ceremony. “He wanted everyone, whether you’re an avid runner or a novice, to just get out and be active in our great city.”

Crane was a marathon runner, outdoorsman and supporter of the arts and parks, and is remembered as a family man and public servant.
