Rio Grande City Swears in New Fire Chief

The City of Rio Grande City officially appointed Manuel Muñiz as new Fire Chief with a swearing-in ceremony during the regular meeting of the city commission held on Wednesday evening, July 10, at city hall.

"Thank you for the opportunity to serve as fire chief," said Muñiz, just before his Oath of Office ceremony. "I want to thank [the mayor, the commission, our city manager] as well as my family for supporting me through the process. I'm looking forward to this new adventure."

Muñiz, who has been with the Rio Grande City Fire Department for 21 years, fills the position formally held by Chief Ricardo Reyes. Reyes left the department earlier this year after having served in the RGC Fire Dept. since 1992.

The city's official website describes the Fire Department's mission as being first responders to fires, medical emergencies, public safety and disasters. The department also strives to protects the lives and property of city residents and its visitors, as well as advance public safety through its fire prevention, investigation and education programs.
