Grulla Middle School Symphonic Band Gains Statewide Notoriety
A press release from the Rio Grande City CISD reports an audio recording of performances by the Grulla Middle School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Jerry Guerra, has recently gained statewide notoriety.
According to the release, earlier this week, the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) State Office notified the GMS Band that their performance CD of "Mighty Mite March" and "Deir in Dei" advanced to the Outstanding Performing Series (OPS) State Hearings in San Antonio Texas. The hearings will take place in conjunction with The Texas Bandmasters Association Workshop on Thursday July 25.
"Special thanks to our principal, Mr. Rene Pena for his support of all our musical endeavors. A very special thank you also to our wonderful band parents and to our central office administration for their continued support," reads a statement from the district.
Directors for the Grulla MS Band include Oscar Gonzalez, Nazario Trevino, Emmanuel Garcia, Monique Olivarez, Hector Hernandez, Marissa Hernandez, and Robert Diaz.
