Rio Grande City Manager, Alberto Perez, officially introduced newly hired Public Utilities Director, Steven Cruz, to the City Commission on Wednesday evening, January 16, at their regular meeting held at City Hall. "Mr. Steven Cruz comes to us from the way of Hidalgo County. He was most recently the director of operations for Precinct 4," declared Perez. Originally from Edinburgh Texas, Cruz is a graduate of the University of Texas Pan-American and a small business owner. "I would like to thank you for this opportunity," declared Cruz addressing the Commission. "I promise to work hard for you every single day I am here for you."
Rio Grande City Mayor, Joel Villarreal, emphasized the City's Public Utilities Department has several upcoming projects that could benefit from planning with a business perspective. "Without the [Public Utilities Dept.] it is hard for the city to grow," stated Mayor Villarreal. Cruz fills the position left open following the resignation of former Rio Grande City Public Utilities Director, Araceli Saenz. At the meeting, Mr. Perez took a moment to recognize the efforts of Mrs. Cindy Escamilla who severed as interim P.U. Director since Saenz' departure late last year.
