Rio Grande City's Downtown Gets a Colorful Holiday Makeover

This year the Rio Grande City Tourism Department invested in new Christmas decorations to light-up downtown and help area businesses, shoppers and commuters get into the holiday spirit. According to RGC Tourism Dept. director, Sara Hernandez, the City began the downtown Christmas Decoration upgrades back in August of this year. "1,400 feet of lights now shine in a zig-zag pattern over Main Street that alternate over seven different colors," said Hernandez. "Also, the Try Me Welding Company helped us erect a 28 foot-tall Christmas Tree made of over 3,000 lights."

"The purpose was to add to the existing decor and bring interest to our historic downtown. The goal is to add more lights each year," added Hernandez. "We'd like to extend a special thanks to our Public Works staff and to electrician Ivan Escobar," Residents interested in learning more about the Rio Grande City Tourism Dept. are encouraged to call 956-487-0672.
