City of Rio Grande City to Continue Free Sandbag distribution throughout Hurricane Season, Dates TBA



The City of Rio Grande City will continue to distribute free sandbags to residents and local businesses throughout the 2018 Hurricane season with dates of distribution depending on the weekly forecast.

According to a notice published by the City, sandbags will be available at 632 W. Eisenhower Rd. Residents will be allowed to fill 5 bags per household, and local businesses can fill up to 10 bags per business. Sand and bags will be provided by the City free of charge to residents and businesses within city limits. Proof of residency is required.

Times and dates of the City's sandbag distribution efforts will be announced by the City via social media, and the Rio Grande City PEG Channel (Channel 1300 for Spectrum Cable subscribers within city limits). Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for future announcements.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1 and will last through November 30. According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, there’s a 75% chance that the 2018 hurricane season will be mostly normal, or a little stronger.
