On Friday, June 15, the Rio Grande City Parks & Recreation Department teamed up with Roma ISD to host a track & field meet, featuring over 500 youth athletes, at Gladiator Stadium.
"We were ready to host the track meet at the Joe Sanchez Stadium but there were certain issues that field so we ended up talking to Roma ISD, and the district let us host our track meet this year at Gladiator Stadium," stated RGC Parks & Rec. director Omar Perales. "It was a great success. We had about 573 Kids participate. We would like to thank Roma ISD, and athletic director Jaime Escobar and his coaching staff."
The City's Track & Field Program is set to participate in several meets through the month of July. The 2018 TAAF Region 2 Track & Field Meet Schedule is as follows: June 29 at McAllen Nikki Rowe High School. July 6-7, TAAF Region 2 Track & Field Meet PSJA Stadium, Pharr. July 13 at Raymondville High School. and July 26-29, TAAF State Games College Station.
