The Rio Grande City Police Dept. and the Starr Co. Sheriffs Dept. teamed up on Tuesday, May 15, for a Fallen Heroes Ceremony honoring law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The event began with an invocation and heartfelt words by Pastor Bob Alderman, which was immediately followed by the Presentation of Colors lead by Starr Co. Sheriff's Dept.
"Today we honor those who have given everything, including their lives, in the line of duty," declared RGCPD chief Noe Castillo. The ceremony concluded with the reading of Starr County fallen officers; Starr Co. Deputy Sheriff Louis Handy - E.O.W. December 1, 1881, Starr Co. Sheriff John E. Martine - E.O.W. December 1, 1881, Starr Co. Deputy Sheriff Yidifonso Solis - E.O.W. June 27, 1898, Starr Co. Deputy Constable David Gomez, E.O.W. May 30, 1934, Starr Co. Deputy Sheriff Ramiro Garcia - E.O.W. July 3, 1966.
