MCALLEN, Texas - A performance celebrating music written by French composers will be featured later this month as part of the UTRGV Concert Series at the International Museum of Art & Science.

The concert, titled “Elle et moi: A Celebration of Women in French Mélodie,” is scheduled for March 29 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum in McAllen.

The program will feature soprano Diane Walters and pianist Michael Ensign, both affiliated with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Music.

French mélodie refers to a style of art song that emerged in France during the 19th century, combining poetry with expressive vocal music accompanied by piano.

The concert is part of a recurring series presented by the UTRGV School of Music, which brings faculty and student performances to the museum’s gallery spaces.

The UTRGV Concert Series includes programs ranging from classical and romantic works to contemporary music and jazz, often featuring piano, voice, cello and percussion.

Performances are designed to provide community audiences with access to live music in an arts setting while highlighting the work of musicians from the university’s College of Fine Arts.

Admission to the concert is included with general museum admission. The event is free for IMAS members and UTRGV College of Fine Arts Patrons of the Arts.

The International Museum of Art & Science is located at 1900 W. Nolana Ave. in McAllen.
