Rio Grande City held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning to mark the opening of its new Public Safety Building, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to improving emergency response and community safety.
Located on FM 755, the facility will serve as the new home for both the city’s fire and police departments. It is designed to host meetings on emergency situations, provide space for critical training, and function as a shelter during times of crisis.
City officials, first responders, and community members gathered at the ceremony to celebrate the building’s completion and the role it will play in enhancing public safety.
“This building represents Rio Grande City’s commitment to keeping our community safe,” said Mayor Gilberto Falcon. “With this facility, our first responders are better equipped to serve, train, and respond to emergencies, and it provides us with a safe place for residents in times of need.”
Police Chief Noe Castillo highlighted the impact of the building on law enforcement efforts, saying, “This facility gives us the tools and space to work more effectively and come together with other departments. It’s a significant step forward in our mission to protect and serve Rio Grande City.”
Fire Chief Manuel Muniz also expressed enthusiasm, noting the benefits for the fire department. “Having a centralized facility like this improves our coordination and gives us a space to conduct crucial training exercises,” Muniz said. “It’s a true asset for the community and for the firefighters who dedicate themselves to keeping it safe.”
The new Public Safety Building is expected to streamline response times and foster closer collaboration between the fire and police departments, as well as improve preparedness for natural disasters and other emergencies.
