The City of McAllen, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, is seeking public input on a proposed roadway improvement project for Nolana Avenue aimed at improving safety, traffic flow and mobility.

The project would widen Nolana Avenue from a four-lane roadway to a six-lane urban roadway between FM 2220 (Ware Road) and FM 1926 (23rd Street), a stretch of approximately one mile. Plans also call for a raised concrete median, sidewalks and shared-use paths to better accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists.

City and TxDOT officials say the project is needed to address traffic congestion and enhance safety along the corridor, which serves as a major east-west route in McAllen.

According to project materials, the purpose of the improvements is to enhance mobility, reduce delays and improve overall traffic operations while expanding pedestrian and bicycle accommodations.
