Mayor Joel Villarreal and International Business Ambassador Ruben Islas attended the 3rd Annual Féria de Tamal event in Cuidad Miguel Alemán, Tamaulipas hosted by Mayor Ramiro Cortez Barrera.
During this event, people all over the community are encouraged to participate by making different and unique tamales and salsas. This year, there were over 15 different varieties of tamales including sweet, savory, and colorful. “On behalf of the City of RGC we would like to thank the city of Miguel Alemán for welcoming myself and Mr. Islas to this wonderful event,” stated Mayor Villarreal.
A tamale is a traditional Hispanic dish made of masa, which is a dough made from hominy, and filled with various ingredients such as meats, cheeses, fruits, chilies, or other flavors. The masa is typically wrapped in a corn husk and then steamed or boiled.
During the holiday season, especially around Christmas, tamales are a popular and festive dish in many Latin American communities. They are often prepared in large batches and shared with family and friends.
