South Texas College received a generous donation from Wells Fargo benefiting the Valley Scholars Program. The $5,000 grant will provide scholarship funds for students in the Valley Scholars Program. Valley Scholars student and Music Major, Eduardo Salinas says the program and its scholarship funds have benefited him on his journey through higher education. “This scholarship has allowed me to progress my educational goals and be a part of the music program at STC,” Salinas said. “I have learned a lot and am thankful for the generosity of Valley Scholars Program donors.”
Wells Fargo Region Bank President for South Texas and El Paso, Alma Ortega Johnson, stated supporting education is a priority for Wells Fargo. “We believe that education is the best thing to do for our community,” Johnson explained. “It is our pleasure to contribute every year for scholarships to support students so that they can get the education they need.” The Valley Scholars Program was established in 1997 to recognize and promote academic excellence by providing financial assistance, academic support services, mentoring, and leadership development to academically gifted and highly motivated students. The Program provides a foundation that empowers students to excel in their academic achievements and to become leaders that will make significant contributions to their communities. Support from local businesses and corporate sponsors enables the Valley Scholars Program to provide up to $2,000 in scholarship funds for Valley Scholars students pursuing an associate degree at South Texas College.
