Local Law Enforcement Officers Attend Crisis Intervention Training


Starr County Sheriff Rene “Orta” Fuentes hosted a Crisis Intervention Training earlier this month which is required for Advance Peace Officer Certification with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); according to a press release from the County of Starr.

"The intense course included trainings on how to address persons with mental illness, veteran treatment programs and many other important topics," reads the statement. The officers also participated in scenarios and took a final exam. The class was instructed by Retired Sheriff Sigi Gonzalez who is a certified TCOLE Instructor.

Guest speakers invited to speak on relevant topics included County Attorney Victor Canales, and representatives from the office of Border Region Behavioral Health Center and National Alliance on Mental Illness.
