The Rio Grande City Tourism Department held it's third annual Unexplained Mysteries Conference and Festival in downtown RGC at Rio Brewing Co. and the historic La Borde House on Saturday evening October 27.
This year the conference featured a 'Weird Science' presentation by Servando Garza, as well as a presentation on the holistic system of Latin American folk medicine known as 'Curanderismo' by Danielle Lopez. The conference concluded with a discussion on True Texas Ghost Stories lead by author/podcaster Chris Lee James with the Laredo Paranormal Research Society.
"Paranormal investigations have been held inside both the Rio Brewing building, and the La Borde House," said RGC Tourism Director Sara Hernandez. "We thought since they're right across the street from each other, that area would be the perfect location to host this year's Unexplained Mysteries Conference and Festival. This year Rio Brewing also decided to host it's own Rio Brew-Ja block-party along side our festival"
Event attendees enjoyed live music, games, food, haunted trolley tours, haunted hotel tours, and costume contests. New to the festivities this year was a Pumpkin Carving Contest, a Cosplay Contest hosted by professional cosplayers Cristela Paez, Christoper Lee Ponce, and Joe L. Hernandez, and a Video Game Tournament organized by the City's I.T. department.
"We'd like to thank Rio Brewing, La Board House, the Kelsey-Bass Museum, the STC Starr County Campus Psychology Club, the SCCC Super Youth, the RGC Main Street Program, The Medicare Store, the Starr Co. Industrial Foundation, and the Rio Grande City Public Library for helping make this event possible. The event was a great success and we look forward to making next year's Unexplained Mysteries Conference and Festival an even bigger and better event," added Hernandez.
